Shenandoah Valley Academy Announces Plans for Zirkle Gymnasium Capital Improvement Project

Story by Janel Ware

Recently four leadership gift pledges from the Shenandoah Valley Academy (SVA) Alumni families and the Potomac Conference positioned the SVA Board of Trustees to proceed with a significant capital improvement project to upgrade the current Zirkle Gymnasium complex.

Improvements include a north entrance and west side addition to house new bathrooms; new locker room facilities; event registration and concession space; a 3,000-square-foot terrace to enhance student life and provide space for hosting events; a redesigned entrance with a handicap ramp; and a new boys’ dorm parking lot and sidewalks for more accessibility. Additional upgrades are planned for plumbing, electrical, security and general infrastructure to ensure ease and reduce the cost of maintenance.

These capital improvements are a significant investment in reclaiming and sustaining the Zirkle Gymnasium complex for SVA student use today—and for the future. SVA announces that 94 percent of the gifts for the $1,987,000 project total are in hand and committed. But funding for the project is not completed and cannot be until more SVA Alumni and Friends join in this significant improvement to the Zirkle Gymnasium.
