Young Adults Share God on the Ocean City Boardwalk
Story by SASDAC Staff
On a recent Sabbath afternoon, 30 young adults from Potomac Conference’s Southern Asian church (SASDAC) in Silver Spring, Md., stepped out in faith to bring the love of God to people on the Ocean City Boardwalk. Armed with hearts ready to serve and hands ready to pray, they set out to meet strangers with a simple but powerful gift—prayer.
The day began with a time of devotion for the prayer warriors, followed by a seminar on how to approach people with care and sensitivity. They wanted to be intentional in how they connected, remembering that each person carries their own story, struggles and hopes.
As they spread out along the boardwalk, they were unsure if their presence would be accepted. But it didn't take long for someone to approach the group and ask for prayer.
“By the end of our afternoon, the group had prayed for a total of 68 individuals and engaged in conversations with even more. Every person approached expressed gratitude, many saying how meaningful it was to have someone stop and lift them up in prayer,” says Gerald Christo, pastor for young adults at the church. “Remarkably, not a single person responded negatively. It was a powerful reminder that there is a deep hunger for prayer, encouragement and a connection with God in our world today.”
Christo adds, “For our young adults, it was a day of growth, courage and witnessing God work in tangible ways through their willingness to serve. This mission was more than just praying for strangers; it was about embodying the love of Christ and demonstrating that anyone, no matter their age or experience, can make a meaningful impact when they step out in faith.”
