Dave Weigley, president of the Columbia Union Conference, recently took the popular ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in honor of a classmate from Blue Mountain Academy inHamburg, Pa. and former collegue who both passed away from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Rob Vandeman, executive secretary of the union, started the event with remembrances of friends who died after battling the disease. Seth Bardu, union treasurer, led the crowd of conference presidents and union employees in prayer, asking God to remember the many people impacted by the disease and to help researchers find a cure.

Weigley encouraged others to also donate to ALS research and challenged Weymouth Spence, president of Washington Adventist University, located in Takoma Park, Md., and Charles Tapp, senior pastor of the Sligo church, also located in Takoma Park, to also take the challenge.
