Allegheny East Conference

A new Black History Month study guide, “Social Justice in the Word of God,” dedicated to the memory of former Allegheny East Conference president Henry J. Fordham III and his wife Sharon Elaine (Wright) Fordham, has been launched.

Years ago, I started college in Alabama. The degree I chose forced me to transfer to a sister school in California for nine months. An East Coast native, I told God that I would never end up this far away from home again. As they say, man plans, and God laughs. 

Because we are in a war against the devil, we need to be “armed to the teeth.” The Bible is our weapons store, our armory where we may arm ourselves for the struggle.

In the movie The Sound of Music, Maria sings “My Favorite Things” to the von Trapp children to comfort them during a thunderstorm. She tells them that whenever she’s scared or upset, she simply sings about things that bring her comfort and joy. I figure if she can sing about “raindrops on roses,” then I should be able to use Scripture to do the same thing.

To honor Pine Forge Academy’s 75th anniversary, leaders of the 46th Annual National Pine Forge Academy Alumni Association reunion recently converted the traditional three-day weekend event into a weeklong celebration.

Earnest Hargrove, the organist at Allegheny East Conference's Dupont Park church in Washington, D.C., was recently recognized for more than 50 years of service in music ministry.
